Merry Christmas

I hope everyone was spoilt rotten and got to spend time with family and friends.
I hope it was a stunner with lots of sunshine or snowflakes out the window.
I spent my day eating and sleeping.
Just the way I like it.
Now off to the Coromandel for a relaxing week, and,
I wont be posting for a while.
Happy holiday season to all.
xx

(This is definitely directed towards myself haha)

Holga-ing

There comes a time in one's life where one must decide what is important.
I decided saving was no longer important,
(I realised that the money I earned would only really make me happy if I spent it on more photography)
 Holga was!
"For me, seeing everything through a plastic lens breaks up the sterility of the digital age. Leaving you with a world that is simpler, more colourful, and blissfully innocent."
I absolutely adore my new toy.
Thanks to my two lovely sisters
and christmas.

Dead Poets

“We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute.
We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race,
and the human race is filled with passion.
Medicine and law, business, engineering; these are noble pursuits, and necessary to sustain life,
But poetry, beauty, romance, love;
These are what we stay alive for...”
Keating; Dead Poets Society

I remember studying The Dead Poets Society in Highschool,
and unlike so many of the films we were forced to watch,
my love for this one grew as we watched it over and over, and our understanding of it grew larger and larger.
It's a classic.
And I still love it.
I found myself watching it again yesterday and I can't get it out of my mind.
Its a simple love. And it gets me everytime.

Food&Coffee

I've been a bit distant from my blogging lately.
So this post is just so you know how I have been spending my time....
I feel like this is the one time of year where you can eat everything,
constantly,
and get away with it.

That Time of Year

Its that time of year again,
where a suprise awaits us everyday,
and reveals itself to us,
 for 25 straight days.

And because I dont have my own chocolate advent calender this year,
(although I may still go out and buy one)
I will make full use of the wonderful Wellington advent calender....

This beautiful depiction of Wellington is exactly what I needed to kick start my excitement for the joyful season. Untill now I have been a bit of a Grinch.
And I apologise.

So why not join me in enjoying all Wellington has to offer this Christmas.

Love Hate Relationship

They say that
So,
if this is the case,
then why is my love of money,
and my love of spending,
(and my ultimate love of eating out),
always getting me in the shit.

Money doesn't equal happiness.
But it sure as well helps.

So, to fix this little problem,
I'm now in the process of sorting out my funds.
Figuring out where my money is going.
And how I can go about saving.

Disposable Camera Project

This new age of technology is beginning to irritate me.
Facebook, Skype, Email,
photo uploading, photo tagging, file sharing.
I miss film.
I miss not knowing what my photos would turn out like.
I miss having to wait to get the film developed.
And I miss not being able to delete photos.

My summer project.
The idea is simple.
Whenever my film is empty, I will purchase a new film for my "reusable disposable camera".
With this, I will take photos of anything.
Fun, Ugly, Wonderful, Strange, Beautiful, Shocking, People, etc.
I will develop the film after it has been filled at the end of the month.
Or just whenever I have enough money to do so.

This could turn into an expensive habit.

Stages.

The three major creative stages of my life:
I like to think of them as 3 different candles.
One for photography (and photographic images),
one for writing,
and one for drawing.

The photographic candle is made of that kind of plastic-ish, fake wax, the kind that takes forever to burn out.
It is the biggest candle.
The most inspiring.
The most enjoyable.

The writing candle is one of those "trick" candles. Where it may often go out, but will always re-light itself.
This is my favourite candle.
The most influenced.
The most exciting.

The drawing candle has an annoying wick, the kind that won't light when you want it to.
This is the most annoying candle.
The most confusing.
The one I seem to have given up on.
Who knows?
Maybe one day I will relight it.
Or maybe I'll just leave it on the windowsill as a reminder of my creative past.

Either way I'm happy.
So long as I have my camera.

Summer

I love how you can talk your mind into believing it is summer.
Summer activities are actually incredibly fun in the rain....

"If there is magic on the planet, it is contained in the water."
Author: Loren Eisley

I love rain-rollerblading, beach-paddling, and wharf-jumping.
I also love these girls,
and the things we did together that fine-ish day.

what power you have to make us suffer
and like it."

Colourful Moments

As beautiful as an image can be in black and white, there is no real joy without colour.
Same applies for life.
"Color is the fruit of life"

A bit of Depp

A guy came in to work early this afternoon dressed as the mad hatter
and it reminded me of this image I found online some time ago.

It is not only his good looks or his charming accent that I'm fond of..
It is the characters.
The wacky, insane, terrible, crazy, beautiful characters.

Beautiful Balloons

It seems to me that everything is so much more fun, more beautiful, more delightful, more precious,
when balloons are involved.

In seeing a balloon,
my mood suddenly changes.
For the better.
